Fishtank Drama - Fish Loves to be the Center of Attention

Okay, so I did my research last night and went out to Best Buy today and got myself a Flip Video Camcorder. I got the Ultra HD which can record 120 minutes with the built-in 8 GBs. Best Buy price-matched a cheaper price from a different store, so I got a pretty good deal on the camera. I also got a flexible tripod, in case I should feel like wrapping the little legs onto my dog and getting a dogs-eye view of the world. :) No, in all seriousness, I might actually start filming myself in the car or on the go wherever I feel the need to broadcast myself.

I did a few test runs today. The Flip can start filming right out of the box. They actually give you batteries! Unbelievable! It comes with video editing software too, so I was able to cut out the portions that I wanted and save them. I'm not an AV-dork, but I still felt pretty accomplished after playing around with the features. It's really easy to upload the vid clips to youtube and other sites. I'm still not quite comfortable being on-camera talent yet, but I'm working on it. There were a few recording sessions where I did capture myself talking, but I was sooo distracted by my own chin-fat that I just couldn't upload those videos. But maybe in the right lighting... I won't look so squishy.

Google Reader

Even though I've seen the Google Reader app for a while now, I've never really felt the need to use it. Until now, I've only had a few key sites that I frequent on a regular basis. But now that I'm in that home improvement mood, I've been looking for inspiration all over the internet. Google Reader makes it easier for me to read the blogs that I enjoy so much. It's inspiring to see all the posts, pics, videos, and creative juices spilling out all over the blogosphere.

Video Posting Weblist

I've been thinking about adding videos to my blog. I have a digital camera that can do short vid clips, and I can maybe borrow the bf's handheld HD camera. Now I just need a tripod and a good script...

I found this list from fellow ActiveRain blogger, Fred Light. Fred somehow managed to make an overwhelming list of video posting website. I thought I'd share the list on my blog for those of you who are also interested in posting videos.

By the way, I am so inspired by Jessica Riffle Edwards! She's cute, confident, and candid. Oh and did I mention she's a Realtor too? I might not film my posts while driving, but I think it's a very creative idea.

Outdoor Room Inspirational Video

Newest Trend - Outdoor Rooms

I've noticed two more HGTV shows about outdoor rooms. One is "Outdoor Room with Jamie Durie" and the other is "Take it Outside - with Kelly Deck." They just played the Romantic Outdoor episode on Take it Outside. The pic above is from Kelly Deck's website. It is absolutely lovely.

Jamie Durie's show is interesting because it doesn't focus on the process, but mostly the communication problems between Jamie Durie and his carpenter, Stephen, and his horticulturalist, Beth. From what I can gather, Jamie Durie has fantastic unique ideas, but they are all in his head and he doesn't convey his thoughts in a concrete manner to his crew. In the end, the outdoor room is amazing, but would be a little too much for the average homeowner to "do-it-yourself."

Kelly Deck's show, "Take it Outside," is more accessible. She takes the homeowner's interior design style and color palette, and brings it all outside. The projects definitely seem do-able for the average homeowner with a sizable budget.

In the end, I've realized that I'm clearly lacking in outdoor design skills. If I want a gorgeous outdoor room, I will have to study these two shows in detail. Thank God for Tivo/DVRs.
